Getting to know Yellow

Here are the colors we have been working with so far. Lets experiment more with layering the yellow.
An overview of what we are doing.
You will need a canvas or primed paper surface, a waterproof pen and a straight edge.
Draw at least 4 rectangles. Use more paper or canvas if you want to pratice more.
Doen’t have to be perfect. Make many if you think you will want to try this more than once.
As you can see I have labeled the top of my work Cadmium Yellow Pale Hue.
I have labeled the sides for my reference. Which color I put down first and any other notes of interest. Color one One full large divided rectangle in each secion (my yellow blue has been done already.)
Once The yellows are done, wipe off excess paint and grab some red from you pallette. This time just fill one of the large rectangles under one of the yellows you did.
Yellow and Red not blended… Yellow and green above already blended…
Take the remaining red (don’t get more) and lightly tap and mix into the yellow as seen above.
Gradually use less red to create a gradient to orange. There we have Yelow done first and red on top.
Lets see how the opposite works out. Wash out your brush and dry. Get some Yellow on your brush (lots) and start trying to mix it as a gradient. Not as easy, but still possible. Each of these combinations are useful. We are getting to know our colors by layering them.
Use more paint if needed.
The application and results are much different.
Go ahead and do your own Yellow over blue and blue over yellow. See the difference. Remember to record your notes… This is what you will refer to when the question is: How on earth do I make that color?
