Sketchbooks: How they can be helpful in your process
This is the page in one of my sketch books. I came up with this idea for my Jingle dress project. I drew this after I read an article about them in 2020.
Below is the step by step process. Notice its not exactly the same as in my sketchbook. Remember to be flexible in your ideas. Failure is just redirection.
Things to remember when using your sketchbook:
- It is YOURS use it as it works for you
- Record ideas, feeling, color, dates, atmosphere, not just drawings. This information can be helpful when creating a bigger piece from your idea.
- Have a basket or folder for random sketches that feel like they may have potential. Sometimes our sketchbook is not with us but an idea is.
- It won’t be perfect, unless you need it to be.
- Take time to get general ideas, shapes and shadows at least.
- Take a photo and reference that in your book if applicable.
